Requirements and actions for personal fall protection on loading crane:
Organizational requirements:
x There is no alternative way of securing a person at the place of work (for example, a fall-arrest
system on a building).
x All national regulations are being met.
x
The permission to secure someone to the crane (according to D-A-CH-S industry group) applies
only in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy subject to special conditions, see relevant working

x There must be a written risk assessment including work instructions from the employer, in which
the anchorage points and rescue plan for the specific application must be defined.
x The crane operator and the person to be secured must be fit and able and have received
appropriate instruction.
x The person to be secured must also be practiced in using the personal protective equipment
against falls.
x Effective communication must be ensured between the operator and the person secured.
Equipment needed:
x
The loading crane must have a load moment of 10mt minimum.
x The carrier vehicle's permissible total weight must be at least 7.5t.
x
The crane hook's load-bearing capacity in every possible position as per the load diagram must be

The crane must have the high performance stability control feature (HPSC, HPSC-L or HPSC-P).

If the capacity of 600 kg is not available due to stability, a restricted area can be defined in the
crane settings. To do so observe the data in the stability chart. Example:

Securing someone to the crane is permitted only if attachment to the carrying device is possible via
two non-connected fasteners (see 'Securing operation').
x
The fall arrester must comply with EN 360 and may only be used in connection with a full body
harness under EN 361.
x
The below equipment is suitable as anchor device according to EN 354 / EN 358:
x Round sling / rope sling with steel core.
x Webbing loop.
x
Only steel carabiners under EN 362 with triple-lock are allowed.
x The crane hook must be equipped with safety latch.
