Channel Setup > De-Esser Display and Settings [Pro]
The de-esser for each channel may be adjusted by (1) rotating any of the four quick control knobs associated with it
(noticing how the base of the quick control knobs match the color of the de-esser) or (2) moving the frequency / threshold
ball via tap-and-drag. The de-esser may be adjusted whether it is turned on or off.
Frequency —
The frequency of sibilance typically runs between 2 kHz and 10 kHz. Here we give you the full 20 to 20
spectrum. The range of the frequency setting varies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
Threshold —
This parameter should be lowered until the ‘esses’ are eliminated.
The range of the threshold setting varies from –96 dB to 0 dB.
Lowering it too much, however, will result in a muffled sound (aka too much attenuation, or TMA on-the-fly).
Range —
This number determines the amount of de-essing, ranging from –15 dB to 0 dB.
Width —
This number determines the width between end points; the smaller the number, the wider the end points
are from each other.
The range of the width setting varies from 0.1 Q to 15 Q.
Channel Setup > De-Esser Meters [Pro]
These three meters show the input level, amount of attenuation and output level.
