Step 1. Carefully lay the server down on its side.
Step 2. Unlock and remove the left-side cover (see “Removing the left-side cover” on page 182).
Step 3. Remove the air baffle (see “Removing the air baffle” on page 188).
Step 4. Remove the fan cage assembly (see “Removing the fan cage assembly” on page 261).
Step 5. Stand the server back up in its vertical position.
Step 6. Remove the USB cable assembly.
Step 7. Touch the static-protective package that contains the USB cable assembly to any unpainted metal
surface on the server; then, remove the assembly from the package.
Step 8. Angel one side (without the release latch) of the USB assembly to the server chassis.

Step 9. Rotate and insert the USB cable assembly into the mounting bracket.
Step 10. Connect the USB cable to the system board (see “System-board internal connectors” on page 25
and “Internal cable routing and connectors” on page 33).
Step 11. Close the bezel (see “Installing the bezel” on page 186).
Step 12. Reinstall the air baffle (see “Replacing the air baffle” on page 189).
Step 13. Install and lock the left-side cover (see “Installing the left-side cover” on page 183).
If you have replaced a server component or installed an optional device in the server, you need to reconnect
the power cords and all external cables, and turn on the server and peripheral devices.
Removing the 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane
Use this information to remove the 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane.
