Read the safety information in “Safety” on page v and “Installation guidelines” on page 29.
If you are replacing a server component in the server, you need to turn off the server and peripheral devices,
and disconnect the power cords and all external cables.
To install an optional ServeRAID adapter memory module, complete the following steps.
Step 1. Carefully turn the server on its side so that it is lying flat, with the cover facing up.
Attention: Do not allow the server to fall over.
Step 2. Unlock and remove the left-side cover (see “Removing the left-side cover” on page 182).
Step 3. Remove the air baffle (see “Removing the air baffle” on page 188).
Step 4. Remove the ServeRAID adapter if necessary (see “Removing an adapter” on page 215).
Step 5. Touch the static-protective package that contains the memory card to any unpainted metal surface
on the server; then, remove the memory card from the package.
Step 6. Align the memory module with the connector on the ServeRAID adapter and push it into the
connector until it is firmly seated.

Step 7. Reinstall the ServeRAID adapter (see “Installing an adapter” on page 216).
Step 8. Reinstall the air baffle (see “Replacing the air baffle” on page 189).
Step 9. Install and lock the left-side cover (see “Installing the left-side cover” on page 183).
If you have replaced a server component or installed an optional device in the server, you need to reconnect
the power cords and all external cables, and turn on the server and peripheral devices.
Removing a hot-swap fan
Use this information to remove a hot-swap fan in the server.
Attention: To avoid unexpected system shutdown, ensure that you lay the server on its side with the
cover facing up before you start.
