▪
Withdraw the catheter and search for the location where the urethral
pressure, P3 (P
ura
), has the highest value (not applicable for UPP). The
maximum urethra pressure is needed for a valid calculation of the MUCP.
▪
Fix the bladder catheter (not applicable for UPP).
▪
Ask the patient to cough to check the registration of all pressures.
▪
Start the investigation (cystometry, pressure-flow study, UPP, or
gynecology study, see chapters 5 to 8).
3.6.4
Measuring Pves and Pura
For urethral pressure profiles (UPP) you can use the bladder catheter as
displayed and described in § 3.6.3. It is not necessary to measure the
abdominal pressure (see also Figure 3.15).
Figure 3.15
Setup for UPP studies
LABORIE can provide you with a special UPP catheter, containing urethral
rings to measure circumferential urethral pressures. One lumen is used for
measuring the bladder pressure (P
ves
), the second for measuring the urethral
pressure (P
ura
), and the third for perfusion to the urethra channel. To fill the
bladder, disconnect the catheter from the pressure transducer P1 (P
ves
) and
connect this line to the pump tube.
