Chapter 4 —Parts
To access the Parameters described on this page (unless otherwise noted):
press the Params button, turn the Parameter knob to locate the parameter,
and then turn the Value knob to change the parameter's setting.

The following parameter is not present when the Part being edited uses a Drum Kit.
To Adjust Amp and Filter Envelopes’ Velocity Sensitivity
1. Use the Select Pa r t buttons to choose the Pa r t containing the amplitude and f ilte r
envelopes whose velocity sensitivity you ’ d like to ad j ust.
2. P r ess the Pa r ams button.
3. T u r n the Pa r amete r knob until the display shows “A mp & Filt Env V el=. ”
T he A mp & Filt Env V el pa r amete r can be set anywhe r e f r om -64 to +63 to subt r act f r om
o r add to the Pa r t Sound ’ s amplitude and f ilte r envelopes ’ velocity sensitivity. A value o f
0 will leave the envelopes ’ sensitivity to M I D I velocity at thei r p r og r ammed settings.
4. T u r n the V alue knob to set the A mp & Filt Env V el o ff set to the desi r ed amount.

Note:
W hen you select a new Sound f o r the Pa r t, A mp & Filt Env V el will be r eset to 0 i f
the System Pa r t Pa r am R eset pa r amete r is set to On ( see C h a p t er 3 f o r details ) .
C hanging a P ar t ’ s Ke y R ange
Each Pa r t in the M R - R ack can be set to r espond to M I D I Note-Ons r eceived f r om within a
speci f ied r egion o f a M I D I keyboa r d cont r olle r . T his allows the c r eation o f splits and laye r s.
Y ou can split the enti r e 88-note keyboa r d r ange into as many as 16 di ff e r ent key zones by
assigning up to 16 Pa r ts to sepa r ate keyboa r d r anges ( some M I D I keyboa r ds have only 76 o r
61 keys ) . I n addition, you can set a Pa r t ’ s key r ange to ove r lap anothe r ’ s, p r oducing
“ laye r ed ” r anges in which you would hea r Sounds f r om mo r e than one Pa r t. A Pa r t ’ s key
r ange is de f ined by setting its lowest note with the K ey R ange L o Pa r t pa r amete r , and its
highest with the K ey R ange Hi Pa r t pa r amete r .
Note:
A Pa r t ’ s K ey R ange L o value should not be set above its K ey R ange Hi setting,
no r should its K ey R ange Hi value be set below its K ey R ange L o setting.
To Set a Part’s Keyboard Range
1. Use the Select Pa r t buttons to choose the Pa r t whose keyboa r d r ange you ’ d like to set.
2. P r ess the Pa r ams button.
3. T u r n the Pa r amete r knob until the display shows “K ey R ange L o=. ”
T he low end o f a Pa r t ’ s key r ange can be any note you desi r e, f r om A 0 to C8
4. T u r n the V alue knob to set the K ey R ange L o to the desi r ed note.

cont r olle r ’ s o r sequence r ’ s manual to see i f that ’ s the case ) .
T his pa r amete r also r esponds to an N R PN L SB value o f 026. See “ Using R PNs and

5. T u r n the Pa r amete r knob until the display shows “K ey R ange Hi=. ”
T he high end o f a Pa r t ’ s key r ange can be any note you desi r e, f r om A 0 to C8.
6. T u r n the V alue knob to set the K ey R ange Hi to the desi r ed note.
T his pa r amete r also r esponds to an N R PN L SB value o f 027. See “ Using R PNs and

I f you want to r eset the r ange, simply r eselect these pa r amete r s and r epeat the p r ocess.
