Chapter 3 —Personalizing Your System
To access the Parameters described on this page (unless otherwise noted):
Press the System button , turn the Parameter knob to locate the parameter ,
and then turn the Value knob to change the parameter's setting .

Staks a r e c r eated by assigning two o r mo r e M R - R ack Pa r ts — and the Sounds they use — to
the Stak M I D I channel. ( See “ Using Staks ” in

T he Stak M I D I channel plays anothe r impo r tant r ole in the ope r ation o f the M R - R ack. I t can
be used to r eceive M I D I P r og r am Changes that will select new Pe r f o r mances. T his will occu r
when the Pe r f P r ogChg R ecv System pa r amete r is enabled ( see “ Changing Pe r f o r mances V ia
M I D I ” below ) .
To Set the Stak MIDI Channel
1. P r ess System.
2. T u r n the Pa r amete r knob until the display shows “ Stak M I D I Channel=. ”
T he Stak M I D I channel pa r amete r may be set to any M I D I channel.
3. Use the V alue knob to select the Stak M I D I Channel you p r e f e r .
Note:
W hen this pa r amete r is edited, all cu rr ently sounding voices on all Pa r ts will be
muted.

Since Staks contain multiple Pa r ts, it may appea r at times that they r espond in a loosely
synch r onized manne r . T his can be a desi r able e ff ect, as it makes a Stak sound bigge r . I n
othe r situations, it ’ s not as musically app r op r iate. T he Stak Cohe r ence pa r amete r allows you
to inst r uct the M R - R ack to f i r e o ff all o f the Staks voices p r ecisely at once, f o r a tighte r
sound. T he Stak Cohe r ence pa r amete r can be used to tighten up any Pa r ts that sha r e M I D I
channels, even when they a r en ' t assigned to the Stak M I D I channel.
Tip:
W hen Stak Cohe r ence=On, the ove r all timing o f Pa r ts that sha r e M I D I channels
may appea r a bit sluggish as the M R - R ack pe r f ectly lines up all o f the notes be f o r e
sounding any o f them. I f you ' r e sequencing, you can compensate f o r this slowe r ,
mo r e synch r onized r esponse by shi f ting t r acks slightly ahead o f the beat.
To Perfectly Synchronize the Start of All Notes in a Stak
1. P r ess System.
2. T u r n the Pa r amete r knob until the display shows “ Stak Cohe r ence=. ”
T he Stak Cohe r ence pa r amete r may be set to :
• O ff— the Stak ’ s notes will sound no r mally
• On — all notes in a Stak will sound at exactly the same time
3. Use the V alue knob to set Stak Cohe r ence to On.
Note:
W hen this pa r amete r is edited, all cu rr ently sounding voices on all Pa r ts will be
