T he f ollowing is not a desc r iption o f the

way to use the M R - R ack — it simply
gets you down to the business o f making music immediately. I t doesn ’ t explain
any o f the whys and whe r e f o r es o r discuss the many c r eative possibilities o f the
M R - R ack. T he r est o f this manual, howeve r , does.
To Get Started
1. T u r n the M R - R ack ’ s f r ont-panel V olume knob down all the way.
2. Connect the M R - R ack ’ s M ain Outs ( the two j acks on the r ight when viewing
the M R - R ack f r om the r ea r ) to a mixe r o r ste r eo keyboa r d ampli f ie r set to
conse r vative levels, o r connect a pai r o f ste r eo headphones to the M R - R ack ’ s
f r ont-panel Phones j ack.
3. Connect the M I D I Out o f you r sequence r /inte r f ace/cont r olle r , etc. to the M R -
R ack ’ s M I D I I n.
4. Powe r up you r sequence r /inte r f ace/cont r olle r , etc.
5. Connect the M R - R ack to a g r ounded A C outlet, using its supplied A C co r d.
6. Powe r up the M R - R ack.
7. B r ing up the M R - R ack ’ s V olume knob about hal f way — you can ad j ust it
late r , a f te r you sta r t playing some music. Y ou r display looks something like

Y ou ’ r e seeing the Sound selected f o r Pa r t 01. T he M R - R ack contains 16 Pa r ts,
which a r e cu rr ently set to M I D I channels 1-16. T r y the Sound out, i f you like, by
setting you r M I D I cont r olle r to t r ansmit on M I D I channel 1.
To Change the Sound on This Part
1. T u r n the Sound T ype knob clockwise o r counte r -clockwise to select the type
o f Sound you want.
2. T u r n the Sound Name knob in eithe r di r ection to choose a pa r ticula r Sound.
To Get to the Other 15 Parts (MIDI Channels 2-16)
• P r ess one o f the Select Pa r ts buttons to select anothe r Pa r t.
T he numbe r o f the Pa r t you ’ r e wo r king on will be shown in the uppe r le f t-
hand pa r t o f the display.
To Mute a Part
• Select the Pa r t you want to silence and p r ess the M ute button.
T he button ’ s r ed L ED will light, and the wo r d “ mute ” will be displayed.
