12. Commissioning
•
Select the address where you want to insert the gap.
•
Click on Insert from the button bar.

n
•
The resulting gap should be filled using any of the methods described above for
device placement.
•
This feature does not automatically re-address the physical devices, this must be
done at the panel using the auto-learn feature.
ImPortant: Care should be taken with cause and effect settings as it is
possible to change the addresses of many devices . Panels that are not
commissioned after this change may have existing references
to the old addresses .
12.7.13 Clear Devices
It is also possible to remove a device, without modification to any of the other
addresses on the loop. This effectively creates an empty gap if performed in the
middle of the devices. You can perform a clear with the following steps: -
•
Select the address that you want to clear.
•
Click on Clear from the button bar.
12.7.14 Remove Devices
In a similar method to inserting devices, you can also remove devices, and this also
affects all addresses that come after the removed addresses. This is often ideal for
removing gaps between devices. You can perform a remove with the
following steps: -
•
Select the addresses that you want to remove.
•
Click on Remove from the button bar.
12.8 Configuring Cause and Effect
12.8.1 Understanding
In a simplistic view, a fire system is composed of inputs and outputs. An input can
be considered something which feeds into the system (cause), and an output and
action that is activated by the system (effect). In the case of a fire system, common
inputs would be smoke detectors or manual call points. Common outputs would
be sounders or beacons. The primary purpose of cause and effect is to allow you to
correctly map out which inputs should activate which outputs.
It should be noted that inputs and outputs can also be utilised for more complex
functionality (beyond fire detection and alert). This includes behaviours such as
monitoring, control and safety management.
