About the System Partition Size
The system partition size can be calculated from the following formula.
Size necessary to install the Paging File Size + Dump File Size +
Application Size
Size necessary to install the system
= 4100 MB (Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions)
= 4100 MB (Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions with Service Pack 2)
= 5900 MB (Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions with Service Pack 2 CD)
Paging File Size (Recommended)= Mounted Memory Size × 1.5
Dump file Size= Mounted Memory Size + 1 MB
Application Size = Required Size
Caution

The above-mentioned paging file size is recommended for
collecting debug information (memory dump). A paging file
with an initial size large enough to store the dump file in the
boot drive is required.
It may be impossible to collect correct debugging information
due to a virtual memory shortage if the paging file is insuffi-
cient, so we recommend you set a paging file large enough
for the entire system.

Regardless of the size of the mounted memory, or the Write
debugging information (type of memory dump), the maxi-
mum size of the dump file is 'The size of the mounted mem-
ory + 1MB'.

If you install any application program or the like, add neces-
sary space to the partition to install these programs.
For example, if the mounted memory size is 512 MB, the minimal size of the partition
will be calculated by the above formula as follows:
4100 MB + (512 MB * 1.5) + (512 MB + 1 MB) + Application Size = 5381 MB +
Application Size
If the required partition size is larger than the size of a hard disk drive, we recommend
you split the file across several disks.
1. Set the "Size required for instal Paging file size".
2. Set the debugging information (equivalent to the dump file size) so that it is
written to a separate disk.
(If necessary, install an additional new disk.)
