3.5-inch Disk Model

You can build a RAID System using the Onboard RAID Controller (LSI Embedded
MegaRAID) or an optional RAID Controller.

Onboard RAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID)

A RAID Controller is factory embedded in your motherboard. The RAID System is
"Enabled" by default.

Optional RAID Controller

Your server can include one of the following optional RAID Controllers:

- LSILogic MegaRAID SAS 8480E Controller

- Disk Array Controller (SAS/SATA HW RAID0/1)

- Disk Array Controller (SAS/SATA HW RAID5/6) 

The optional RAID Controller can control the internal hard disk drives (or external
hard disk drives with the LSILogic MegaRAID SAS 8480E) as a RAID System. To use
the hard disk drives in a RAID System, reconnect the hard disk drive interface cable on
the motherboard. 

At the factory, the interface cable is connected to the Mini SAS connector on the
motherboard. Refer to the manual coming with optional RAID Controller for more
information.

Caution

The RAID controller board is extremely sensitive to static elec-
tricity. Make sure to touch the metal frame of the Server to dis-
charge static electricity from your body before handling the
RAID controller board. Do not touch the RAID controller board
terminals or on-board parts by a bare hand or place the RAID
controller board directly on the desk. For static notes, see

“Static Precautions” on page 157

.

  Note: Before installing a RAID controller board, start the

SETUP utility, select [Advanced] 

→

 [PCI Configuration], and

check that [Enabled] is set for the parameter [PCI Slot xx ROM]
(xx: PCI slot number).
