Design and function
ASTM D 86 and distillation groups
The mineral oil products are split up into four distillation groups in
ASTM D 86. The assignment to a group depends on the composition
and expected volatility properties of the product. The assignment to a
group determines the product’s inlet temperature and the cooling
medium temperature for the condenser, among other things.
