Assembling the flame arresters
Figure 10.4: Flame filter with a right-hand
(R) angular gap offset.
WARNING
Danger of explosions due to incorrectly
mounted flame arresters
The Ex d box does not provide any explosion
protection if the flame arresters are mounted
incorrectly.
For this reason:
– Make sure that all three flame filters are in use.
– Assemble the flame arresters precisely according
to the instructions.
•
Make sure that all components are dry and clean.
•
Lubricate the outer thread of the inner box with assembly
paste. Ensure in particular for flame arresters for the
instrument air and nitrogen lines that no assembly paste
penetrates the interior.
If the outer box has been removed from the Ex d box, e.g. for
complete replacement of the flame arrester:
•
Before screwing the outer box into the Ex d box, make sure
the washer has been placed on the outer thread of the
outer box. Only then is explosion protection provided by the
Ex d box!
•
Insert the flame filters and the ribbed rings in the inner box (
7
)
(for the sequence, see Figure 10.3 on page 142). Note that the
flame filter
(R)
is installed as the second flame filter.
Information on the angular offset of the gap
(L or R)
can be
found on the tension strips of the flame filters.
Installing the flame arresters
•
Make sure that the O-ring (
6
) is not damaged.
•
Screw the inner box (
7
) into the outer box (
1)
on the Ex d box.
Tighten the inner box with 50 to 60 Nm.
•
Connect the flame arrester to the pipeline. To do this, close the
screw pipe connection on the lower section of the inner box
and the Swagelok screw connection.
