RS-232
A 25-pin interface which transmits data in serial mode. RS-232C has
five user-defined parameters: baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits,
and protocol.
SCSI
Small Computer System Interface. Pronounced “SKUH-zee.” For
example, your controller features three internal SCSI bays where you
can add additional hard disks. See also SCSI Cable Termination.
Serial
Interface technique which sends one bit of information at a time,
sequentially, between computers and local peripheral devices. Serial
interfacing is slower than parallel interfacing.
SIMM
Single In-Line Memory Module. A small, compact, circuit board
containing RAM (Random Access Memory) chips. See also RAM.
Spectrophotometer
A device that measures the wavelengths reflected or transmitted by
an object. The measurements are then plotted and result in a spectral
curve which is compared to a standard, such as a color matching
chart. Differences are plotted into a transfer curve.
Spooler
An area on the controller’s SCSI drive or in RAM that acts as a
temporary storage space for up to 250 jobs processed by the
controller, but not yet printed. The spooler allows the controller to
continue processing jobs, independently of the printer’s status.
Style
Defines a typeface in terms of weight, slant, and proportion.
