Calibration
The measurement of output against a standard value set and the
adjusting, if necessary, of the hardware to match the standard
measurement so that output is predictable.
Cascade Printing
Printing multiple copies of the same job on more than one printer
simultaneously.
Centronics Parallel
Interface standard which sends one byte (8 bits) of data at a time
between computers and local peripheral devices. Parallel interfacing
is faster than serial interfacing.
Character Set
The complete set of characters that appear in a typeface family. See
also Typeface and Family.
Characterization
The color characteristics of a device such as a monitor, based on the
average characteristics of several identical devices.
Color Gamut
The range of colors available to a particular device. For example, the
human eye’s gamut is the whole visible light range while a color
monitor produces a more limited number of colors for display.
Color Management System (CMS)
Software which translates specific device (such as a printer or
monitor) color information to an International Color Consortium
(ICC) format that other system devices can understand.
Color Profile
A file which maps the relationship between a standard color space
and a specific device’s color space. It provides the specific
capabilities of the device under factory conditions to reproduce a
color.
