9.4.7 Forming Head
It is important to note that changes in the speed of the descent of the case onto the minor flap
folders can make it necessary to change the position the
‘FORMING HEAD PARTLY DOWN’
sensor (LS-6) in order to obtain correct operation of the minor flap folders. If the descent speed is
increased, then LS-6 must be adjusted upwards to compensate for the quicker case motion.
Verify the following items on the forming head:
1) Inspect forming head needle bearings and thrust-washers for wear.
2) Inspect jaw plates for excessive wear or damage.
3) Inspect forming head cylinder for wear or damage.
4) Check jaws open and forming head-up shock absorbers for proper function and position.
5) Inspect rod end for wear.
6) Inspect LS-2 & LS-4 and their cables for damage.
Check the ‘S’ box for Satisfactory Performance and ‘US’ box for Unsatisfactory Performance.

9.4.8 Discharge Pusher
It is important that the discharge pusher speed matches the conveyor speed. Verify the following
items on the discharge pusher:
1) Inspect discharge pusher cylinder for leaks, wear, or damage.
2) Check the overall condition of this assembly (i.e., guide wheels, rod ends, welds, etc.)
Check the ‘S’ box for Satisfactory Performance and ‘US’ box for Unsatisfactory Performance.

9.4.9 Shock Absorbers
Shock absorbers are used in various locations on the machine to control impact forces caused by
inertial effects. Shock absorbers used are adjustable to control the ‘hardness’ of the impact
