Case Former
Component Identification
3-13
13) Flap Folders
The Flap Folders fold the bottom case flaps prior to sealing. There are two minor and two major
flap folders, one for each case flap. See ‘Major Flap Folders’ and ‘Minor Flap Folders’ for detailed
descriptions.
14) Forming Head
The Forming Head is an assembly of jawplates and associated mechanisms that erects the case
to the OPEN position with a 90
°
pivoting action of the jawplates. The forming head then lowers it
into the flap folders.
15) Gear Motors
Dual Gear Motors power the side-belt conveyors.
16) Guide Track
The Guide Track is a flat steel bar with angled edges which is used in conjunction with sealed
guide wheels to control the linear motion of the collar assembly and the discharge pusher.
17) Guide Wheels
The Guide Wheels are sealed grooved wheels which are used in conjunction with a guide track to
control the linear motion of the collar assembly and the discharge pusher.
18) Head-up Latch
The Head-up Latch is a latch mounted on the collar assembly, which moves forward when the
machine’s air pressure is switched
OFF
. Its function is to hold the forming head in the
UP
position in order to make jam clearing easier.
19) Hinged Guard Door
The Hinged Guard Door (also called the Operator Side Guard Door) provides access to the
forming area of the machine. The machine immediately stops if this or any other door is opened
during operation.
20) Inductive Sensor
Inductive Sensors are used to magnetically detect the position of the machine’s mechanisms.
21) Infrared Sensor / Optical Proximity Sensor
Infrared Sensors are used to optically detect the presence of the case.
22) Injector
The Injector injects the separated case blank upward from the caliper slot into the Pin and Dome
modules.
23) Jawplates
Consisting of two opposing plates equipped with pins and domes, the Jawplates open the case
by a 90
°
pivoting action.
24) Levelers
The Levelers are threaded rods installed at the base of each leg. They are used to adjust the
height of the machine and to make it level, compensating for floor irregularities.
25) Light Emitting Diode
A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a solid-state low intensity light, located on inductive and infrared
sensors and on PLCs, indicating operating status.
