Loopback Test Command Descriptions
Command
Description
localAnalogLoopback (13)
This test passes data received on the DTE
interface to the modem's analog transmitter,
loops the transmitter output back to the analog
receiver's input. The receiver of course passes
received data back out the DTE port. The use
of this test is to verify the modem's analog
interface is functional. This test is terminated
with the terminateTest command.
localDigitalLoopback (14)
This test loops data received on the DTE
interface back out the DTE interface. Its use is
mainly to test that the cable to the modem's
DTE interface is good. This test is terminated
with the terminateTest command.
In order for this test to be performed, the
modem must be in a connected state. During
this test, data is received by the local modem's
DTE port, passed through the local modem's
analog transmitter over the line, and received
by the remote modem's receiver where it is
looped back to the remote modem's analog
transmitter. The transmitter passes the data
over the analog line back to the local modem's
receiver which passes it back out the local
modem's DTE port. The test should be done
without error correction and is used to verify the
health of the remote modem's analog
receiver/transmitter. This test is terminated
with the terminateTest command.
selfTest(16)
The modem self test verifies proper
functionality of the basic components of the
modem. A RAM test and a ROM CRC test are
included in this test. A failure of this test does
not specify the exact reason for failure. RAM
and ROM tests can be run individually to help
isolate self test failures.
testRam(17)
The modem's RAM verifies the ability to write to
RAM and read back the information that has
been written.
