Chapter 3 Using Total
Control MIBs
This chapter is provided for those who are
not
using
Total Control
Manager/SNMP
(TCM) software. Users of TCM need not concern
themselves with the contents of this section.
This section assumes that the reader has prior knowledge of the
SNMP protocol and the concept of the Management Information
Base (MIB). No explanation of the SNMP protocol is provided
here. For additional information on this topic, see
The Simple Book
by Marshall T. Rose.
Total Control MIBs and the U.S. Robotics
Enterprise
The Total Control MP/16 uses a subset of the Total Control MIBs.
They are identical to compatible revisions of MIBs used with other
U.S. Robotics enterprise equipment.
The complete set of Total Control MIBs are comprised of the
standard MIBII, the DS1 MIB, and a number of enterprise-specific
MIBs. The Assigned Numbers Authority has reserved enterprise
number 429 for U.S. Robotics. All of the enterprise-specific Total
Control MIBs reside under this node on the enterprise sub-tree.
Total Control MIB Terminology and the
MP/16
When applying Total Control MIBs to an MP/16, use the following
guidelines:
♦
Modems 1-8 are slot 1, channels 1-8; modems 9-16 are slot 2
channels 1-8.
♦
The MP/16 is referred to as a
chassis.
♦
The term NMC describes a chassis’s management module.
