2.3 AUDIO INPUTS/OUTPUTS
RADAR II provides 24 BALANCED inputs and outputs, using DB-25 (female)
connectors (wired using the DA-88 standard.) Inputs/outputs may be balanced or
unbalanced, +4 or –10 signal level. RADAR II’s AES/EBU inputs and outputs use
one XLR cable per pair; the S/PDIF inputs and outputs use RCA connectors.
TDIF inputs/outputs (optional) use DB-25 connectors wired as described in
Appendix A.
Please Note:
All wiring diagrams for RADAR II inputs/outputs appears in Appendix A.
2.3.1 About Audio Reference Levels
The Audio Level preference setting provides four level settings for the analog inputs,
and four level settings for the analog outputs. The selections are:
• +24 dBu
• +22 dBu
• +20 dBu
• +18 dBu
These settings refer to scale (or maximum levels). Put another way, these are all +4
dBu operating levels, with +20, +18, +16, and +14 dBu of headroom.
Example:
With RADAR II’s input operating level set to +22, a tone of 0 VU coming from a
+4 dBu console will cause RADAR II’s meters to read -18 (dB below full scale).
If the “+24 dBu” input operating level is selected, the RADAR II meter(s) would
show -20 (dB below full scale).
RADAR II audio reference levels are set via the Preferences menu (described in
Section 4).
Be sure to consult your audio mixer's manual if you are unsure of the proper
level at which to set RADAR II.
Please Note:
The Input and output levels do not always have to be set to the same settings.
This may be useful in the situation where a microphone preamp is connected
directly to one of RADAR II's inputs and you are using an -+4dBubalanced
mixing console.
2.3.2 Audio Connections - Analog
1.
Connect source audio to the Audio Inputs.
2.
Connect a console (or other monitoring system) to the corresponding
outputs.
