This item mounts and unmounts RADAR II’s file system - this function should
only be used under the direction of Otari Technical Support!
4.7.3 Disk Diagnostics (INIT DISK, CHECK DISK, REPAIR DISK)
These menu items are used when diagnosing and repairing SCSI disk problems.
CAUTION!
INIT DISK is destructive to both the audio data on the disk and the file
system - therefore it should only be used under direction of Otari Technical
Support!
4.7.4 JAZ Protect/Unprotect Controls
RADAR II can use JAZ drive(s) as recording or backup media. Write-protecting
JAZ disks requires software control - there is no physical “write protect tab” as on a
floppy disk or 8mm tape cartridge.
To write protect a JAZ disk:
Select the “JAZ PROTECT” item from the
Diagnostics menu. The system responds with:
Use the cursor keys, numeric keys, or jog wheel to select the SCSI ID of the JAZ
drive containing the disk you are write-protecting, then press ENTER.
To unprotect a JAZ disk:
Select the “JAZ UNPROTECT” item from the
Diagnostics menu. The system responds with:
Use the cursor keys, numeric keys, or jog wheel to select the SCSI ID of the JAZ
drive containing the disk you are write-enabling, then press ENTER.
4.7.5 SCSI Defect Management (Show Defect List/Verify Disk)
This Diagnostics item enables you to view a list of any defects on a SCSI disk.
High-performance SCSI drives use an intelligent method of recovering from bad
(unreadable/unwriteable) sectors by remapping the bad sectors to spare sectors on a
reserved area of the drive.
In many SCSI applications, this remapping process is completely undetectable.
However, in the case of RADAR II, drive performance is very important.
Therefore, the Diagnostics menu provides several tools for detecting/avoiding
performance problems on SCSI disks.
