19.
If the Generators will not be used for some time,
close
the raw water intake
seacocks; turn
OFF
fuel supply and position Generator battery selector switches
to
OFF.
INVERTER
The selector switch on the
120V AC INVERTER BYPASS PANEL
on the 120/240V
AC Distribution Panel No. 2 Panel labeled
‘FROM #2 PANEL’
and ‘
INVERTER’
is
used to select between the Inverter and Shore or Generator power (‘FROM #2 PANEL’
selection includes
both
Shore Power
and
Generator). The ‘
FROM #2 PANEL
’ position
should be selected when
EITHER
Shore Power is available or one or both of the
Generators are operating. The ‘
INVERTER
’ position should be selected when
NEITHER
Shore Power is available nor a Generator is operating.
The Trace™ SW Series Model SW4024MC Inverter/Battery Charger can generate a
sustained 4000 watts of 120V AC (
NOT
240V AC) electrical output at 60 Hz from the
house batteries
or
can produce a constant 120 amps of 24V DC to charge the ship’s
service batteries. The Trace™ SW inverter uses a combination of three Acme
transformers, to produce a “stepped” sine wave. The purpose of an Inverter is to ‘invert’
Direct Current (DC) to Alternating Current (AC). For more detailed information, refer to
the Trace™ SW Series Invert/Charger Owner’s Manual.
The Trace™ Inverter/Battery Charger will ‘sense’ when 120V AC electrical power is
being supplied from either Shore Power
or
a Generator, and will
automatically switch
to
120V AC
charge mode
when 120V AC electricity is available and
automatically switch
back
to
battery mode
when 120V AC is not available. In 120V AC mode, the Battery
Charger is active and charging the ship’s service batteries. This is why it is important to
keep the ‘
INVERTER
BATTERY
CHARGER
’ circuit breaker
ON
at all times to
charge the ship’s service batteries; the ’
24V BATT. CHARGER’
circuit breaker
ON
to
charge the engine start batteries
and
NAV./COM. Batteries and the ‘
12V BATT
CHARGER’
circuit breaker
ON
to charge Generator’s start batteries.
AC Electrical Distribution
The heart of the electrical distribution System is the Asia Harbor Yacht Builders Co., Ltd.
(ABB) DC/AC Electrical Distribution Panel located Port side in the Pilothouse.
A 120/240V AC electrical line is composed of four wires; one neutral, one ground and
two ‘hot’ wires, each ‘hot’ wire carrying 120V AC. When these two ‘hot’ wires are used
together they produce 240V AC.
The
right side
of the AC Control Center Panel in the Pilothouse provides all the selector
switches and circuit breakers necessary to operate all of the 120/240V AC equipment and
accessories onboard. At the top right of the Panel are four digital displays which provide
you with volt, hertz and ampere readings of the Shore Power or Generator power source
being used.
