De-Commissioning
235
De-Commissioning
De-Commissioning is the process of preparing your vessel for long term storage. The
process is similar to Winterizing except the vessel
will not be
stored where air
temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.
If you do not plan on using your vessel for an extended period of time, you will need to
go through a process for each system similar to those discussed below. It is strongly
recommended that you discuss with your local boat yard professional additional or
alternative procedures that will best protect your vessel based on local weather, custom
and practices and your ability to check on the vessel at least once a week.
This checklist
assumes a weekly visit to the vessel.
Be particularly concerned about
wind and rain
. Make certain all
scuppers
are clear and
free of debris on each visit. Rain water trapped in a scupper line can potentially flood
other compartments of the vessel. Cover Engine Room vents and dryer vent with plastic
and check on each visit. It is not necessary to cover fuel tank vents, water tank vent, or
holding tank vent as they are each protected from ‘critter’ entrance by a screen. Ensure all
dock lines are protected against
chafing.
Air Conditioning
The following de-commissioning procedure should be followed:
1.
Turn
OFF
all SMXir units.

’ and
‘

’ on the 24V DC Main Panel Disconnect.
5.
Close
all seacocks for the raw water intake.
6.
Disconnect
the hose connecting each seacock and the sea strainer
at the seacock
and drain the water.
7.
Open
the valve at the bottom of each sea strainers and drain all the water into the
bilge.
8.
Disconnect
the hoses connecting each air conditioning unit and the sea strainer
at
the sea strainer
and drain the all water from both units into the bilge.
9.
Loosen
the screws on the raw water intake pumps and allow water to drain into
the bilge.
