Generators
Your Krogen 58’ is equipped with two Northern Lights Marine Generators. One
Generator is a 20Kw, Model M844LK with Power Take Off for the Bow Thruster and
Windlass, and includes an 844 engine, a PK-320K Generator end, a Series 3 Generator
Control Panel, an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR), VERNALIFT™ muffler, Gen-
Sep™ exhaust, and water separator, M844LK Soundshield and one Lifeline 12V DC
battery, Model GPL 3100T rated at 228 amp hours and 1120 CCA. The other Generator
is a 12Kw Model M843NK which includes an 843 engine, a PX-312K Generator end, a
Series 3 Generator Control Panel, an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR),
VERNALIFT™ muffler, Gen-Sep™ exhaust and water separator, M843M sound shield,
and one Lifeline 12V DC battery, Model GPL 3100T. A Dolphin 12C DC battery
charger, located on the Aft bulkhead in the Engine Room, charges the batteries for both
Generators.
Exhaust gases are mixed with the raw water from the heat exchanger and discharged
directly overboard through the transom.
As part of the delivery packet from Kadey-Krogen, you received two “Northern Lights
Operator’s Manual” which provides excellent comprehensive and detailed information on
the operation and service of both of your Generator sets. We highly recommend you
become familiar with the organization, content, and format of those manuals. This
owner’s manual will highlight some of the more important items in the “Northern Lights
Operator’s Manual”.
Locate your Generator’s serial numbers on the Generator set plates located on the service
side of the Generators. You should record
both the Generator’s serial numbers and
Generator’s model numbers in three places:
1. In this Owner’s Manual, Appendix G.
2. In the “Northern Lights Operator’s Manual”, page 3.
3. Somewhere safely off the boat.
Use the serial number and model number when ordering parts and in correspondence.
Note the 20Kw generator is
Model 844LK . The “L” indicates “ Long Stroke ” and this is
important when ordering parts.
Engine Break-In
Your new Northern Lights Generator was filled at the factory with special break-in oil. It
would be highly unlikely you would need to add oil in the first 50 hours, but if you
should, add only
single viscosity 30W , such as Chevron Delo®.
Use the proper oil viscosity based on the
expected air temperature range during the
period between oil changes. Refer to the “Northern Lights Operator’s Manual”, page 12.
