Electrical System
Krogen 58’ Manual, Hull 58014
68
AC Electrical Source
The vessel must be connected to
Shore Power
for the 120/240V AC accessories and
equipment to function, unless one or both of the Generators is operating. The selector
switch on the bottom right of the 120/240V AC Distribution Panel No. 2 should be
selected to the ‘Inverter’ position when 120/240V AC is not available from either Shore
Power or one of the Generators. Only certain 120V AC equipment and accessories (not
240V AC) can operate off of the Inverter. See Inverter section below for details.
Connecting to Shore Power
The Shore Power cords supplied with the Cablemaster System are each 75 ft. 50 amp,
120/250V AC 6 gauge, 4 wire with a NEMA SS-2 bayonet blade type locking connector.
Should you arrive at a dock and find no 50 amp Shore Power connection, only 30 amp
connections, you may want to consider having on hand a Reverse Y Adapter that will
allow you to connect your 50 amp Shore Power cord to two 30 amp dockside outlets.
To
connect
your Krogen 58’ to Shore Power, you should do the following:
1.
Always
wear shoes
when connecting to Shore Power.
2.
Take all electrical loads off the 120/240V AC system by turning
OFF
ALL
120/240V AC equipment and appliances.
3.
Turn
OFF
both Power Selection switches on the 120/240V AC Distribution
Panels No. 1 & No. 2 labeled ‘
OFF
SHORE #1 SHORE #2 GEN #1 GEN #2’.
4.
Locate, on the dock, the proper
50 Amp
Shore Power connections assigned to
your vessel.
5.
Turn
OFF
the circuit breaker at the Shore Power connections
on the dock
BEFORE
connecting the Shore Power cords.
6.
If you are connecting to Shore Power using the Cablemaster Systems (Aft
connection), extend the power cords using the Cablemaster System. Refer to
Cablemaster System in this manual for Cablemaster operations.
7.
If connecting to Shore Power at the Bow, connect the ship’s Shore Power cords
AT VESSEL FIRST.
8.
Connect the ship’s power cords to the Shore Power connections on the dock.
Allow for tidal rise and fall, making sure the power cords are
never
in the water.
9.
Turn
ON,
one at a time,
the circuit breakers at the Shore Power connections on
the
dock.
CAUTION
Each time before connecting to Shore Power, examine the insulation on both
Shore Power cords for cuts; the locking connector at the cord ends and the
receptacle on the dock, looking for signs of heating or discoloration. If a locking
connector or dock connection shows signs of overheating, do not use. DO NOT
wait for the problem to get worse. If a power cord is overheating, it might be the
locking connector or the dock’s receptacle that is causing the problem.
