Bilge System
The Krogen 58’ is equipped with
five
Rule Industries, Model 12 submersible
bilge
pumps
, located in the Bow Thruster Compartment, Forward Machinery Space,
Amidships Machinery Space, Engine Room and Lazarette, each with a rated capacity of
2,000 GPH (7571 L). Refer to
Figure 2 – Bilge System Schematic for location of bilge
pumps and thru-hull connections.
Attached to each bilge pump is an Ultra Safety Systems PUMPSWITCH™ SENIOR
Model UPS-01 pump switch with high water alarm located in the Pilothouse.
The bilge pumps and Ultra PUMPSWITCH™ SENIOR operate off of the 24V DC
electrical system.
Each bilge pump is connected to its own 1” (25.4 mm) Bronze thru-hull connection. All
bilge discharge hoses are looped upwards approximately 24” (610 mm) above the LWL.
Thru-hull discharges are located approximately 6” (152 mm) above LWL.
All five bilge pumps and float switches are controlled from a panel of five Rule Bilge
Pump switches located Port side of the steering station in the Pilothouse. The panel is
labeled
BOW THRUSTER COMPARTMENT, FORWARD MACHINERY SPACE,
SEWAGE COMPARTMENT, ENGINE ROOM,
and
LAZARETTE.
Each bilge
pump can be operated independently. Each Rule bilge pump switch has a three position
toggle lever indicating
AUTO
(Automatic),
OFF
or
MAN
(Manual) mode. When a
pump is operating, a RED indicator light on the respective switch will illuminate. These
switches are not of the ‘circuit breaker’ type and each has their own 10 amp AGC Fast
Blow fuse.
The bilge pumps are wired directly to the ship’s service/house batteries.
There are
no
circuit breakers
on the 24V DC electrical panels for the bilge pumps. Even with the
battery switch in the OFF position, the bilge pumps will still operate.
For
Automatic mode
, you should do the following:
1.
Select
the bilge pump you want to place in Automatic mode.
2.
Place the three position Rule Marine Switch in the
AUTO
position.(to the left),
When in Automatic mode, the bilge pump will discharge any fluids in the bilge when the
pump’s Ultra PUMPSWITCH™ SENIOR housing fills with 2 ½ inches (63.5 mm) of
water. The bilge pump will automatically turn off when the water level in the housing
falls to 1 ¼ inches (31.8 mm). If the PUMPSWITCH™ SENIOR housing fills with 3 ½
inches (89 mm) of water, the
High Water Alarm
in the Pilothouse will activate with a
very loud
105 decibels.
