Below the Waterline
In addition to caring for your Yacht above the waterline, it is important to periodically
check below the waterline. The growth of marine life on the bottom of your yacht is
inevitable. This growth will affect performance and could eventually interfere with the
thru-hull fittings.
In order to keep the bottom of your yacht as free from marine growth as possible, it is
recommended that, as needed, you wipe down the bottom, rudder, thru-hulls, shaft, and
the propeller with a cloth towel. If a towel is not doing the job, you can use the least
abrasive possible 3M® type pad.
The rate at which marine growth occurs can vary greatly depending on a number of
variables, such as where your boat is kept, the temperature of the water, and the amount
of sunlight. A qualified diver should inspect and clean the bottom of your vessel between
haul-outs and inspect and replace the zinc anodes as necessary (See the “Bonding
System” section of this manual).
CAUTION
Whenever you use an abrasive material to clean the bottom of the boat you may
be removing some of the anti-fouling properties of the bottom paint.
