Propulsion Engine Controls
Your Krogen 58’ is equipped with a ZF Mathers MicroCommander Marine Propulsion
Control System and consists of three MC2000 units (one in the Pilothouse, one at the
Flybridge and one at the Wing Station), two MicroCommander 585CE Actuators, one for
each engine and associated cables, electrical wiring and connectors. The system is
electronic and requires a 24V DC power source. The two actuators are located in the
Engine Room and are connected mechanically, one actuator to each engine, to the
engines main throttle for speed command and to the engine’s transmission for shift
command. The system commands the vessel’s throttle and shift using a single MC2000
Control Head unit. Only one MC2000 will have command at any time.
As part of the delivery packet from Kadey-Krogen, you received a “ZF Marine Operation
& Installation Manual” which provides excellent comprehensive and detailed information
on the operation and service of the Engine Control System. We highly recommend you
become familiar with the organization, content, and format of that manual. This owner’s
manual will highlight some of the more important items in the “ZF Marine Operation &
Installation Manual”.
At time of delivery, the system has been synchronized and is ready for operation.
Initialization
To energize the engine controls, the circuit breakers labeled ‘
ENGINE CONTROL (L)
’
and ‘
ENGINE CONTROL (R)
’, located in the Pilothouse on the 24V DC NAV./COM.
Electronics Panel, Starboard side of the steering station, must be
ON
.
The MicroCommander is designed to
prevent engine start
until:
•
Power is
ON
(Circuit breakers are ON).
•
The transmissions are in
NEUTRAL.
(Control heads are vertical).
•
A remote station is
in command
. (Depress station transfer button).
When the circuit breakers are turned
ON
, each Actuator is initialized and positions its
respective engine throttle lever to Idle and the transmission to Neutral. A low repetition
tone will be heard at all stations, indicating the System has been initialized and
NO
remote state has taken command.
Accept command
at any station by positioning the Command Head levers into the
Neutral position and
depressing
the station transfer button at the base of the Control
CAUTION
Cable connection between actuator and shaft mechanism on gear and throttle
mechanism should be closely monitored.
