Replace the fuel filter elements at the interval which applies to you: Every 10,000 miles,
every 500 hours, every other oil change, annually or if an engine power loss is noticed,
WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.
A power loss is an indication that the fuel filter element is becoming restrictive. As a
general rule, when the vacuum gauge located on the unit between the two filters reads
between 6 to 10 inches of mercury (in. Hg) it may be time for service.
The actual
measurement varies in fuel systems.
Always carry extra Racor Model 2040 PMOR fuel
filter elements, as one tankful of excessively contaminated fuel can plug a filter. Racor
fuel filter elements are available in 2, 10, and 30 micron rating. It is recommended that 30
micron fuel filter elements are used.
To
replace the fuel filter elements
for an
engine
, you should do the following:
1.
If engine is ON, turn ON the Engine Room exhaust blower by turning
ON
the
circuit breaker labeled ‘
ENGINE ROOM EXHAUST FAN
’ on the 120/240V
AC Distribution Panel No. 1 Port side in the Pilothouse.
2.
Select
the filter to stay on-line by positioning the handle to
point to
the ON-LINE
filter, thereby selecting the off-line filter for service.
3.
Place a suitable
collection container
under the filter to be serviced.
TIP
If the engine must remain running, select the filter to stay on-line, and then
service the off-line filter.
CAUTION
Any fuel spilled in the bilge should NEVER be pumped overboard.
