and glassed in place. Stainless steel rudder stops are located to limit rudder travel to 35
degrees each side of center.
Flanged Roller Bearing
A flanged roller bearing is installed at the top of the rudder stock and bolted to the
steering flat. The bearing has a grease fitting on its Forward side that should be greased
annually. The bearing is a Morse “Sealmaster”, RFB series flange unit for a 1.50”
diameter shaft, unit part number 550249.
Rudder Stock Bearing
The rudder seal is a STRONG®TYPE-I, Model TIDRPB-I-1500 which consists of a one-
piece UHMW housing with a replaceable nitrile lip seal. The seal is connected to the
rudder post by a flexible hose which keeps the nitrile lip seal in alignment with the rudder
stock. The STRONG®TYPE-I Ruder Seal is 100%
watertight and maintenance free .
Emergency Tiller
An emergency tiller has been provided, and if required, should be fitted through the deck-
plate in the Aft deck and onto the squared shaft of the rudder stock. The emergency tiller
is stored in the Lazarette.
When using the emergency tiller, the bypass valve located
near the hydraulic cylinder must be opened (parallel to the hydraulic line).
CAUTION
DO NOT stow articles or equipment around the rudder assembly that could jam
the hydraulic cylinder and prevent it from moving.
