Battery Charging
The engine start battery banks are charged by the ship’s service/house bank through the
Balmar Digital Duo Charge whenever at least 26V DC are sensed. See the Digital Duo
Charge Section on page 41 for more details.
The start batteries for both Generators are charged by both the alternator on the Generators
and the 12V DC Dolphin Battery Charger/Converter located in the Engine Room, Starboard
side on the Aft bulkhead.
The
ship’s service/house battery bank is charged by the 24V DC Dolphin Battery Charger
and by the 24V DC Xantrex Battery Inverter/Charger as long as AC Power is available.
While underway, the ship’s service/house battery bank is charged by the Balmar
Alternator on each engine.
Connected to each alternator is a Balmar Max Charge Regulator. The regulator continually
senses the voltage of the ship’s service/house battery bank and will automatically optimize
charging.
CAUTION
If ship's service/house battery bank is drawn down at any time to below 75% capacity, you
MUST RECHARGE the batteries to at least 75% UTILIZING THE INVERTER/CHARGER
before running the main engine and utilizing the alternator to charge the batteries
The NAV./COM. battery bank is charged by the 24V DC Dolphin Battery Charger and from
the Balmar Alternator on each engine through the Blue Sea Systems Automatic Charging
Relay . See the Automatic Charging Relay section on page 41 for more details.
The ship’s service/house battery bank, engine start batteries, and Generator start batteries are
charged as follows:
• 24V DC Xantrex Battery Inverter/Charger charges the ship’s service/house battery
bank.
• 24V DC Dolphin Battery Charger charges the ship’s service/house battery bank and the
NAV./COM. batteries.
• The Balmar Alternators on each engine charge the ship’s service/house battery bank
while underway.
• The Balmar Alternators on each engine charge the NAV./COM. Batteries through the
Blue Sea Automatic Charge Relay while underway.
• The ship’s service/house batteries charge the engine start battery bank through the
Balmar Digital Duo Charge.
• 12V DC Dolphin Battery Charger charges the Generator start batteries .
