Fuel Polishing System

Fuel Polishing System
The ESI Clean Fuel System, Model CFS-1000FRE, is designed to effectively remove
water and microorganisms from the Diesel fuel and transfer fuel from any one of four
selected tanks to another tank. The system consists of a DE-BUG Fuel Decontamination
Unit, Racor Model 1000FH fuel filtration/water separator, a transfer pump with a flow
rate of 180 GPH (681 LPH), a vacuum gauge, ball valves, piping and connectors. The
ESI Clean Fuel System operates off of the 120V AC electrical system and is installed as a
“stand alone” system by receiving Diesel fuel from a selected tank and returning the
polished fuel to the same or different storage tank.
Operations
To transfer/polish fuel from one tank to another, you should do the following:
1.
Make sure the
timer switch
on the fuel transfer/polishing manifold is
OFF
before
the circuit breaker labeled
‘FUEL POLISHING’
is turned ON.
2.
Turn
ON
the circuit breaker labeled
‘FUEL POLISHING’
located on the
120/240V AC Distribution Panel. No. 2.
3.
Open
both sight gauge valves on the supply and return tanks involved in the
transfer/polishing action.
4.
Open
the
supply
shut off valve.
5.
Open
the appropriate
supply
valve
(Forward Port, Aft Port, Forward Starboard,
or Aft Starboard) located on the valve manifold.
6.
Open
the appropriated
return
valve
(Forward Port, Aft Port, Forward Starboard,
or Aft Starboard) located on the valve manifold.
7.
Rotate
timer switch clockwise to start the process of transferring/polishing fuel
from the supply tank to the selected return tank. Turn the timer knob to select the
number of gallons to polish. The system will polish 150 percent of the amount
selected.
8.
Monitor
the sight gauge on both tanks, not allowing the
sending
tank to go
completely empty nor allowing the
receiving
tank to overfill.
9.
Monitor
the vacuum gauge located on the ESI Clean Fuel System panel. If the
vacuum gauge indicates 14 HG
or
higher, replace fuel filter with a 2 micron fuel
filter
in accordance with manufacturers recommendations
.
10.
When the desired amount of fuel has been transferred, turn
OFF
the
transfer/polishing pump by turning the timer knob counter clockwise to the OFF
position.
11.
Close
the valve manifold supply and return valves.
12.
Close
both sight gauge valves on the supply and return tanks.
13.
Close
the supply and return tank shut off valves.
CAUTION
To eliminate the possibility of getting air into the fuel line to the propulsion
engine or Generator, it is best to transfer fuel when both are OFF.
