12.1 GRE Troubleshooting
This section describes how to troubleshoot common GRE faults and provides sample
troubleshooting scenarios in the following sections.
12.1.1 Failed to Ping the IP Address of the Remote Tunnel Interface
Common Causes
This fault is commonly caused by one of the following:
l
Interfaces on both ends of a tunnel use different tunnel encapsulation modes.
l
No IP address is assigned to interfaces on either end, or no tunnel source or destination
address is configured on the two interfaces.
l
No reachable route exists between the tunnel source and destination addresses.
Troubleshooting Flowchart
After each device is configured as shown in
, PC1 and PC2 cannot communicate.
To rectify the fault, follow the troubleshooting flowchart shown in
Figure 12-1
