INSPECTING THE CRANKSHAFT OIL CLEARANCE
(1)
Use the micrometer to measure the outer diameter of crankshaft
journal.
(2)
Without mounting the crankshaft, mount the crankshaft bearing
and main bearing cap to the cylinder block.
(3)
Use the cylinder gauge to measure the inner diameter of the
crankshaft bearing.
(4)
Calculate the difference between the outer diameter of the crank-
shaft journal and the crankshaft bearing inner diameter. If a mea-
surement reading exceeds the repair limit, replace the crankshaft
bearing or crankshaft.
4.
INSPECTING THE CRANKSHAFT FOR CRACK, DAMAGE
AND OIL HOLE
(1)
Use the dye penetrant testing (red check) to check the crankshaft
for crack and damage. If found defective, replace the crankshaft.
(2)
Check the crankshaft for clogged oil hole. If found defective,
replace the crankshaft.
