Installing Aspen Blank Front Panels
This section describes the importance of the Aspen blank front panels. It further explains how to
remove and install the blank front panel(s) on an empty slot in the front of the Aspen chassis:

Aspen chassis.
CAUTION
It is important that any unoccupied slot in the chassis have a blank front panel installed to ensure satisfactory
protection from EMI as well as to guarantee adequate airflow through the chassis.
Pre-Installation Requirements
The following tools and equipment are required before installing or removing an Aspen blank front
panel:

ESD-preventive wrist strap
●
#2 Phillips screwdriver
●
Aspen blank front panel(s)
●
Aspen chassis
You can remove blank front panels at any time without causing disruption of network services. If you
must remove an MSM or I/O module from the chassis, follow the instructions in the
“Removing an
Aspen 8810 MSM or I/O Module” on page 131
.
The chassis ships with eight blank front panels. Slots number 4 and 5 are generally left open during
shipment. Use blank front panel(s) to fill slots not occupied by MSM or I/O modules as shown in
Figure 76
.
