9-43 Troubleshooting Printer Problems
Troubleshooting Blurred Images or Characters
The edges of the images or characters are not sharp and crisp.
Follow this check list to troubleshoot this image defect. After each
action try a test page to see if you solved your problem.

Check if Conserve Toner mode is enabled in the Administration/
Engine/Print Quality configuration menu. If so, turn it off.
n
Check the toner recycle switch. Set it to OFF and install waste
toner bottle. See “Enabling Toner Recycling Mode” on page 9-31
for information.

Check the Toner Density setting in the Administration/Engine/
Toner Density configuration menu.
n
Check consumables to see if they have reached end of life. If so,
then replace them. See chapter 2, “Consumables,” for informa-
tion.
n
Print 1 test page.
n
Clean the precharger. See chapter 2, “Consumables,” for infor-
mation.
n
Clean the transfer charger. See chapter 2,“Consumables,” for
information.
n
Clean all of the paper feed paths in the printer, around the drum
and the developer unit.
n
Replace the developer. See chapter 2,“Consumables,” for infor-
mation.
n
Print 1 test page.
n
Replace the drum unit. See chapter 2, “Consumables,” for infor-
mation.
n
Print 1 test page.
n
Replace the fuser. See chapter 2, “Consumables,” for informa-
tion.

factory, see “Placing a Service Call” on page 9-68.
