13. REMOTE CONNECTION VIA MODEM
13.1 PC CONNECTION FROM REMOTE VIA SERIAL OR EXTERNAL GSM MODEM
The iPro.CHILL series has a RS232 serial output on board (OPTIONAL) through which a serial cable can be
used for connection to a GSM or external Dixell serial XWEB modem.
Modem Connection (“or point to point connection”)
It is the most used method where a LAN network connection is not available, (Intranet or Internet). The use
of a dedicated telephone line is recommended in this case.
WARNING:
If a GSM modem or serial modem is used continuously, they must be reset at regular intervals to
guarantee the right working.
If a GSM modem is used it is recommended to use the “Modem reset” relay on board the iPro.CHILL, which
is especially studied for this application and also to wire the GSM modem power supply as shown in the
figure.
If a Dixell XWEB serial modem is used, reset takes place automatically via the serial cable.
Only use the modem supplied or recommended by Dixell
:
the programmable controller
iPro.CHILL works in Linux environments and not all modems have drivers for this operational system.
Only
the Dixell XWEB serial modem and the Siemens GSM TC35 modem are supported. Dixell cannot be held
responsible for any damage consequent to the use of unofficial modems.
