For the upgrade process, be sure to attach disk drives (internal to the
sever or external to ProLiant Storage Systems) to the same port
numbers as described above. It is necessary to connect internal
drives and external ProLiant Storage Systems to the same
numbered ports on the SMART-2DH Controller as they were on
the SMART Controller. If you get these port connections wrong, a
system power-on (POST) message will advise you to reconnect to the
correct ports.
The SMART-2DH Controller uses 68-pin Fast-Wide SCSI-2
connectors; therefore:
❏
If you are connecting to Fast-SCSI-2 internal drives, you must
attach a 68-pin to 50-pin cable adapter (included in the SMART-
2DH option kit) to the Port 1 connector to use your existing 50-pin
internal ribbon cable.
❏
If you are connecting to a Fast-SCSI-2 external storage system, use
a 68-pin to 50-pin external cable, which must be ordered
separately: (6-ft, 189632-002; 12-ft, 189632-003).
❏
If you are connecting to a Fast-Wide SCSI-2 external storage
system, use a 68-pin to 68-pin external cable included with the
ProLiant Storage System.
For more detailed information on cable connections for your system,
refer to Chapters 3 through 7, depending on your Compaq server type.
6. Remove the SMART Controller and replace it with the SMART-2DH
Controller. Refer to Chapters 3 through 7. It is not necessary to put the
new controller in the same expansion slot as the old controller.
7. Reconnect all internal and external drive cables, paying close attention
to the port numbers as noted in Step 5.
