Disk Drive Upgrades
Additional storage space may be obtained with the same number of physical
drives in a fault-tolerant configuration by replacing these drives with others of
higher capacity. By replacing the drives one at a time, the data on the new
drive is recreated from redundant information on the remaining drives. After
each new drive has been rebuilt, the next can be replaced. After all drives
have been replaced and rebuilt, the additional capacity on each drive can be
utilized by adding a new logical drive. Array Configuration Utility will
automatically recognize the unused space and guide you through the
procedures to make use of it.
Other Fault Management Features
The SMART-2DH Controller and the network operating system offer several
other fault management and data reliability features. These features include:
■
Auto reliability monitoring
■
Dynamic sector repairing
■
Drive parameter tracking
■
Drive failure alert features
■
Interim data recovery
■
Automatic data recovery
■
Hot-pluggable drives (Compaq ProLiant Storage System, Compaq
ProLiant Server, Rack-Mountable Compaq ProLiant Storage System or
Rack-Mountable Compaq ProLiant Server)
The following items are not SMART-2DH features, but are functions possibly
supported by the operating system:
■
Controller duplexing
■
Software based drive mirroring
