COMPAQ CONFIDENTIAL - NEED TO KNOW REQUIRED
7. You may receive a warning about changing the cache buffer size on
your server. In some cases, increasing the size of the cache buffers on a
NetWare/intraNetWare server may slow I/O performance.
8. If you must enlarge the cache buffer size and it takes the partition out
of optimal alignment, or if CPQDAOPT informs you that the existing
partition on a device is not optimally aligned, it is still possible to
configure the partition optimally.
a. Make a backup of the data on your server to avoid data loss.
b. Use
INSTALL.NLM Disk Options, Partition Tables, and Change
Hot Fix Option to change the size of the Hot Fix Redirection
Area using the formula provided by CPQDAOPT.
c. Recreate your volume(s).
d. Restore your data.
Software Drive Mirroring
with NetWare/intraNetWare
If you use drive mirroring fault tolerance, be aware that
NetWare/intraNetWare recognizes each logical drive in an array as a separate
physical drive. If you mirror logical drives on the same array and a physical
drive fails, both logical drives in the mirrored pair will fail and your data will
be lost.
To avoid this problem, you must mirror logical drives on separate arrays. Use
the Compaq Array Configuration Utility for NetWare/intraNetWare
(CPQONLIN.NLM) on Novell SSD Disk 3 to view the logical configuration
for the SMART-2DH Array Controller. Record which logical drives reside on
which arrays. When configuring NetWare/intraNetWare for drive mirroring,
select equally sized logical drives on different arrays.
IMPORTANT:
NetWare will not be able to warn you if you mirror logical
drives which share a physical drive because NetWare cannot distinguish the
individual physical drives. If you do not have at least two arrays, you should
not use NetWare drive mirroring.
