Removing and Replacing the Cisco ASR 1000 Series DIMM Memory Modules
Table 14-1
shows the Cisco ASR1000-RP1 and Cisco ASR1000-RP2 memory design.
You might need to upgrade the DIMM for the following reasons:
•
You have upgraded to a new Cisco IOS feature set or release that requires more memory.
•
You are using very large routing tables or many protocols.
This section contains the following topics:

Removing and Replacing the DIMM Memory Modules on the Cisco ASR 1006
Router and the Cisco ASR 1013 Router
The Cisco ASR 1006 Router and the Cisco ASR 1013 Router have redundant RPs. The following is an
overview of the steps to remove and replace the DIMM memory modules on these routers:
Step 1
Remove the standby RP by performing the procedure described in the
“Removing the Cisco ASR 1000
Series Route Processor from the Cisco ASR 1006, Cisco ASR 1004, and Cisco ASR 1013 Routers”
section on page 14-2
.
Step 2
Remove the DIMM memory module from the standby RP by performing one of the following
procedures:
•
Removing and Replacing the Cisco ASR1000-RP1 DIMM Memory Modules, page 14-19
•
Removing the Cisco ASR1000-RP2 DIMMs, page 14-25
Step 3
Insert the new DIMM memory module on the standby RP by performing one of the following
procedures:
•
Removing and Replacing the Cisco ASR1000-RP1 DIMM Memory Modules, page 14-19
•
Removing the Cisco ASR1000-RP2 DIMMs, page 14-25
Step 4
Insert the standby RP by performing the procedure described in the
“Removing the Cisco ASR 1000
Series Route Processor from the Cisco ASR 1006, Cisco ASR 1004, and Cisco ASR 1013 Routers”
section on page 14-2
.
