Installing The Steel Sleeves To Sprockets/Wheel Hubs
Each sprocket and wheel hub has a steel sleeve installed, designed to protect the sprocket
or wheel hub from seal wear. These sleeves are press fit machined and need to be
installed using an arbor press. It is extremely important that they are not pressed on
asymmetrical but as straight to the shoulder as possible. If this is not observed there
is the possibility of oil leakage in this area.
The installation shown here as an example, illustrates the sleeve being assembled to the
wheel hub. The same procedure may be applied to the sprocket assemblies as well.
1. Be sure to clean the area to which the
sleeve is being installed prior to assem
-
bly. Use steel wool or a soft wire brush to
rid the area of any old LOCTITE residue
from the previous sleeve. Clean the area
with a degreaser and wipe with a lint free
cloth.
2. Apply 609 green LOCTITE to the I.D
of the steel sleeve.
