This square shaft rotates when the spotting tong solenoid energizes to engage a gear clutch with
the table drive. When the table motor is turning counterclockwise the square shaft will also turn
couterclockwise to close the spotting tongs. When the tongs are closed their center pivot links lock
the tongs in the closed position to prevent pins from dropping from the table when raised for clearing
deadwood.
The square shaft turns in the opposite rotation re-opening the tongs when the table motor is turning
clockwise. Refer to
