F uel T ank Bonding System
Do not allow any liq uid gasoline to enter the
bilge. Liquid gasoline is a re and e plosion
ha ard. asoline vapor is e tremely ammable
and highly e plosive under certain conditions.
The fuel tank is incl uded in the boat’ s bonding system.
All exposed metallic co mponents that are served by the
1 2 V D C elec trica l system, but do not ca rry cu rrent, are
elect rica lly co nnect ed to an internal bonding system.
Design benefits of the bonding system include:
P rovide a low resistance elect rica l co nnect ion among
isolated metal co mponents, which might be subject
to elect rolytic co rrosion ca used by stray voltage
P revent the build-up of elect rica l potential on exposed
metal parts, which might ca use personal injury
P rovide a low resistance elect rica l co nnect ion to
ground when co mponents are exposed to voltage
spike s such as a lightning strike
Reduce radio freq uency interference ( RF I)
The co mmon bonding co nduct or, a green # 8 awg insulated
co pper wire, co nnect s the fuel tank to a grounding plate
loca ted on the hull.
T he b oat’ s b onding system p rotects it from
creating and discharging static electricity. Y our
b oat must b e in contact with the water or a land
b ased grounding system while fueling.
