Chapter 3: Working with Directories
29
Finding an Entry in a Directory
When you try to search for an entry in the directory, MasterDirectory searches only the data in the sort field,
which is specified using the Sort By box at the bottom of the MasterDirectory window. (See "Setting the
Display Sort Order" later in this chapter.)
For example, if you set the Phone field as the sort field, when you try to search for an entry,
MasterDirectory will only search the Phone field.
To find an entry in a directory:
1. In the Sort By box, select the field you want to search.
2. Click the mouse in the Search box at the bottom of the MasterDirectory window or choose the
Search
Entry
button on the toolbar, and then type the information you want to find.
The entry that contains the matching information is selected (if present).
Modifying the Database Structure of an Existing Directory
At some point, you may need to modify the database structure of an existing directory. Using
MasterDirectory, you can make the following changes to the database structure of an existing directory:
•
add fields
•
remove fields
•
change the length of fields
NOTE:
If you modify the database structure of an existing directory, you must modify the existing import maps and
export maps for the directory.
To modify the database structure of an existing directory:
1. Using Windows Explorer, rename the “.dbf” file for the directory you want to modify.
2. Open the directory you want to modify.
3. From the File menu, choose
New
.
The Create New Directory dialog box appears.
4. Choose the
Copy the current directory schema
option button.
5. Choose the
OK
button.
The Directory Structure (Step 1 of 4) dialog box appears, displaying the fields for the directory.
