The Network Alarms panel, which is located in the lower left corner of the CORView
Element Manager Window (refer to Figure 5.35), graphically represents the number
of current major and minor network alarms reported to CORView. A red bar
represents the major alarms and a yellow bar represents the minor alarms.

The Faults Menu of CORView Element Manager Window (refer to
Figure 5.35)provides the following menu selections related to alarms reported to
the software:
– Faults > Alarm History allows you to generate and view an Alarm History
Report.
– Faults > Active Alarms causes CORView to display the alarms that are currently
active.
– Faults > Trap Destination Table allows you to have alarm traps sent to a
maximum of 16 specific locations when they occur.
For more information, refer to the CORView Enterprise Element Management Software or
CORView Lite Element Management Software User’s Guides , part numbers 1502588 and
1506672, respectively.
Operational Guidelines
Adhere to the following guidelines with regards to operating the SMM-2.
■
When changing the community strings, modify all three strings
(ReadWriteCommunity, ReadOnlyCommunity and TrapCommunity) for security
reasons. (For instruction on how to change community strings, refer to “SNMP “on
page 5-35.)

Set the date and time parameters to avoid password expiration upon each login.
Setting the date and time parameters may be accomplished manually via the “date”
command or automatically via the ntp configuration.
■
During system initialization, “commits” for changes to the system configuration
parameter may be blocked. Delay making changes until the ENTITY-MIB display is
consistent with currently installed modules.

One command covers the configuration of the network. The set-interface command
configures the IP, netmask, and gateway (refer to “IP Address” on page 5-35).
■
Do not use the two auxiliary RJ-45 connectors to access the SMM-2 or the other
modules installed in the CHP chassis. Doing so may result in unpredictable behavior
due to network collisions.
Upgrade Procedures
The following procedures describe how to download and install SMM-2 software upgrades
using ftp.
1. Telnet to SMM-2 ( admin is the user name and password).
2. At the admin@ smm-2_ip_address % prompt, type set CHPMAX5000-MIB
chpMaxShelves chpAllowFirmwareDownload enable
(chpAllowFirmwareDownload must be enabled in order for the upgrade to work).
