When you select data using the Select Region (Visible) button you select only the triangles that
are visible from that viewpoint. This can make it difficult to delete complete sections of the
model – some of which will not be visible for the selection. There are two alternative means of
selecting data.
One is to use the
Select Region (All)
function (
). This works in the same was as the Select
Region (Visible) function, except that it selects all the data within that region – even data that is
hidden by other data or in the background. When using this function you should be careful not
to delete data you wish to keep that happens to be behind the data you are trying to delete.
The next section describes an additional means of selecting data for deletion.
Using a Plane to Select Data
SceneVision provides a function for deleting all of the data on one side or the other of a plane.
The general approach is to create a plane (or a duplicate of an existing plane), move it into the
desired position, select all of the data on one side of it, and delete that data. This is unaffected
by the viewpoint or the direction of the triangles, and will delete all the triangles in the model
that are on the specified side of the plane.
Begin by creating a plane as described in section 8.1.6. If you want to keep that plane in
position, you can create a duplicate of it by selecting the plane and then selecting
Duplicate
Plane
in the Draw & Measure menu.
Now you may want to move the duplicate plane to a new position parallel to the original plane.
For example, you may want to delete all of the data outside of a wall. To be sure not to select
any of the data in the wall, it’s best to move the plane slightly outside before using it for
selection. To move a plane, select the arrow button in the toolbar.
Ctrl
-
Alt
and drag the center
point of the plane. It will move along a path perpendicular to the original plane. That is, it
remains parallel to the original plane. In this way, a plane can be dragged slightly outside of a
wall.
Now that the plane is in position, and while still selected, choose either
Data Above Plane
or
Data Below Plane
from the Select menu. This will select all of the data on one side of the plane
– and that data will turn red. (Data Above Plane is the data towards the scanner; below it is
away from the scanner). If you select the wrong side, hit
Undo
in the Edit menu – or
Unselect
Data in Window
from the Select menu. Then choose the other selection.
With the data selected, hitting the delete key will delete all the data on that side of plane. You
may then want to save the file with the same or a new name.
