display for all measure lines.) You can also move either of the endpoints of a measure line after
it has been created in the same way as moving a landmark point. Pick
Select Annotation
(
),
hold down
Ctrl
, then click and drag either end point of the line.
Extending a Measure Line
A measure line can also be extended in length along its current direction. Use the
Select
Annotation
button and hold down
Ctrl
-
Alt
. Then click and drag either endpoint of the line. This
is very useful for extending lines into areas where there is not data such as into the corners of a
room that were hidden from the scan. It can also be used to extend lines representing blood
spatter or bullet trajectories.
LE
Just as with landmark points, measure lines created in one data file will appear in corresponding
data files. In some cases, only one of the endpoints of a measure line will be represented in a
particular file. In this case, that single point will appear in the corresponding point in the data
with the letters LE and a diamond around the point. This indicates that it is a line endpoint.
There is an option to display the length of the measure line next to the endpoint in this situation.
To do so, select
Line Endpoint Measurements
in the View menu.

Outline Tool
The outline tool draws connected line segments to draw an outline of an object or an area. To
use the outline tool, select
Draw Outline
from the Draw & Measure menu, or select the
Draw
Outline
button (
) from the toolbar. Move the cursor to the point where you will start your
outline, hold
Ctrl
(the cursor will change to a cross) and click on the first point. As with the
measure line tool, you will draw a point and a line will connect that point to your cursor. Move
the cursor to the next point in the outline and click again. This will create another point and will
fix the first line segment of the outline. You can continue adding points in this way. To
complete the outline, double-click to select your last point. This will connect the last point to the
first point. The label will also appear in the Outlines folder of the scene tree.
Note: If you right-click when finished the outline will be completed but will not
connect the last point with the first point.
When an outline is displayed, you have the option of also displaying the measurements of each
of its line segments. In the View menu, select
Outline Segment Measurements
to turn the
measurements on or off. You also might want to see the outline alone – without the data. To
turn off the data, select
Data
in the View menu. Figure 39 shows an outline of the living room
with the data turned off – with and without measurements. You can also move any of the line
segment end points (the points you selected) in the same way you moved a landmark point or a
measure line endpoint.
