Refresh from Camera
– Selecting this button will capture the above settings from the
camera and load them into the Camera Controls window.
Note: Controls on the camera body are not active during Preview or Auto-
Acquire; only during Manual Acquire. Image format and compression settings
are set by SceneVision in all modes.
Preview and Camera Settings
Typically the camera settings above are used in conjunction with the
Preview
button in the
SceneVision window. Selecting the Preview button will take a photo and display it in a window
as in Figure 30. Use the image in the Preview image to adjust the settings listed above. Select
Preview again to see the effects of the new settings. Repeat until the image acquired is
satisfactory.
In addition to the image itself, a histogram of the image intensity is displayed on the left side of
the SceneVision window, as in Figure 30. This histogram shows the distribution of pixels over
the complete range of intensity values. Images that are under or over exposed will typically have
distributions of pixels unevenly distributed towards one side or the other of the histogram. This
is a useful tool, particularly when the quality of the image in the window is difficult to see
because of lighting conditions.
6.2.2
Auto Acquire
Once the camera settings are adjusted, the
Auto Acq.
tab is used to capture the images associated
with a scan. With Auto Acquire, the DeltaSphere automatically takes a series of images
covering the horizontal field-of-view of the scan. Once the parameters are set and the process
begins no additional user intervention is required. The number of images taken is determined by
the horizontal field-of-view, the % Overlap setting (described next), and bracketing (described
later in this section).
% Overlap
To the right of the Auto Acquire tab is the
% Overlap
setting. This specifies the amount of
overlap of adjacent images. We recommend a 20% overlap. This works well for blending
images together. With a 20% overlap setting the DeltaSphere will rotate to 9 positions to cover a
360
°
scan. You may find a different overlap setting works well for your application. The slider
bar below the overlap setting shows how many positions will be used and, during shooting,
displays the current position.
Start
Select the
Start
button to open the Auto Acquire popup window as shown in Figure 31. This
displays several parameters.
Scan Name
– If these pictures correspond to a laser scan you’ve already done, select
that name from the list. Otherwise, provide a new name for this series of images.
