Position the camera to the level, upward-view or downward-view position by supporting
the camera, removing the thumbwheel as in Figure 26, rotating the camera-arm assembly,
and replacing the thumbwheel.
Note: The position you select depends on the scene you are scanning and the
vertical field-of-view you would like to capture. (The entire horizontal field-of-
view is captured by the system’s rotation.) The level view provides coverage
approximately 37
°
above and below horizontal. This may suffice for some scans.
To cover the entire vertical range possible you may want to do two passes with
the camera; one with the upward-view and one with the downward-view. These
have a small overlap and will cover a scene. (No level view is necessary.) If you
only need coverage below the horizontal, a single pass with the downward-view
would be sufficient.
Connect the power supply to the camera or make sure it has batteries installed. (See Figure
28.) Note that the 1394 connection will use up batteries very quickly. Use the power supply
if possible.
Connect the Firewire (1394) cable to the camera and to the PC/laptop running SceneVision.
(See Figure 28.)
Turn the camera on.
Do not move the tripod. Do not change the settings in SceneVision – the horizontal FOV
settings are used by the camera operation. Do not change the position of any of the objects
in the scene to be scanned.

Set Color Scanning Controls
Select the
Connect
button in the Photo section of the SceneVision window. The button will
turn yellow and, when connected (which should happen quite quickly), will turn green.
Also, the Disconnect, Settings, Preview and Start buttons now will be available. If you have
trouble connecting, make sure the 1394 cable is well connected and the camera is turned
on. You might need to turn the camera off and on again to make the connection.
Click on the
Settings
button. A camera controls popup window will appear as in Figure 29.
In this window you can specify most of the camera settings needed for capturing color –
